Abstract

The article highlights the challenges facing women giving birth in South Africa. These challenges include poor hospital service and lack of medical supplies and medicines to HIV-positive mothers and their babies. The lack of follow-up of mothers and their HIV-exposed infants results in some babies not receiving nevirapine after birth, and women not receiving the antiretroviral treatment they so desperately need.
