The article discusses various aspects of massive open online courses (MOOC) and their implications for the study and teaching of physics as of June 2014. Topics highlighted include higher education institutions' evaluation of MMOCs using experiments by several groups such as edX led by Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Coursera established by Stanford University professors. Also highlighted are the author's experience with MMOC in physics education.
