Abstract

Research activities on the development of technologies for the chemical conversion of CO2 to sources of useful chemicals and clean synthetic carbon fuels are reviewed. Emphasis is placed on the technological characteristics of various chemicals developed from CO2 and utilization of CO2-containing gases emitted from various industrial sources. Another viewpoint on the use of biomass material as an alternative source of fossil fuel is also presented. The current status of research on the mitigation of CO2 via biomass utilization in Korea is discussed at the end of the review. © 2008 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim.
