Abstract

Study of the atmosphere generates a large amount of data, but through using the technique of atmospheric analysis this can be condensed into a physically consistent picture of the atmosphere. This book is devoted to the techniques used in the atmospheric analysis procedure. An introduction overviews characteristics of the atmosphere and a history of meteorological measurements. Chapters are devoted to the outlining of separate measurement techniques, which can be broadly grouped into objective analysis procedures, and initialization techniques. The relatively new field of continuous data assimilation is discussed, and future atmospheric analysis trends are reviewed. -N.Davey
