Abstract

A comment on an article by Stief et.al. [Seroprevalence of hepatitis B virus infection and associated factors among prison inmates in state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil; Rev Soc Bras Med Trop 2010; 43:512-515.] with a finding of a higher prevalence of hepatitis B virus infection in males and prisoners with intravenous drug use and in sexually transmitted disease. Further studies on risk factors, risk groups and other sexually communicable diseases such as hepatitis C and HIV are warranted.
