Abstract

Orchestrating conductors: A carbo-thermal reduction treatment of a TiO 2 nanotube layer in acetylene converts the tube walls into highly conductive and stable oxy carbide compounds. The resulting semimetallic TiO 2 nanotube layers (TiOxCy) are electrode materials with properties that differ from other TiO2 nanotubes (see picture). They have a high oxygen overpotential and can be used as a catalyst support, for example, for methanol oxidation. © 2009 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KCaA.
