Abstract

This paper reviews the structure and behavior of the magnetosphere and discusses the current challenges in understanding the physics of the magnetosphere. The major problem is to find the appropriate model of the interaction of the solar wind with the geomagnetic field that is in agreement with observations. It is recommended that interdisciplinary collaborative painstaking research will lead to full understanding of magnetospheric physics as well as throw more light on the causes of magnetic storms, which influence earth's atmosphere and may have negative adverse effects on human lives.
