Abstract

he tendency for white tin, in the form of coatings andotherwise, to be transformed into gray tin is affectedby the composition and thickness of the tin, thetemperature at which transformation takes place, andthe history of the tin prior to the transformation.Gray tin will appear spontaneously under certainconditions, and after inoculation with gray tin orgermanium under other conditions. There should belittle difficulty in preventing the formation of graytin if certain precautions are taken.
