Abstract

One of the important instruments of development is humans, how to form humans who have the character of loving the environment must be instilled so that sustainable development can be realized. Sustainable development is a global agenda which is better known as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and scheduled to start in 2016-2030. From the 17 SDGs goals, there are 3 goals that promote waste reduction and climate change mitigation, namely the 6th goal on clean water and proper sanitation, the 13th goal of dealing with climate change and the 14th goal of protecting marine ecosystems. Research on Waste Management at the Ibnul Qoyyim Putri Islamic Boarding School that located in Yogyakarta is an attempt to show that waste management in the institutional realm is able to have an impact on individuals and has relevance to the three SDGs goals above. From waste management in pesantren, it also shows whether school institutions are able to carry out government policies regarding environmental maintenance as stipulated in Law No. 32 of 2009 which explains that dealing with waste and maintaining the environment is the obligation of every individual, and more specifically the Yogyakarta Mayor Regulation number 67 of 2008 concerning Policies, Strategies in the Management of Household Waste and Waste Similar to Household Waste by using the concepts of reuse, reduce and recycle. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a sociological approach where researchers allow natural interviews to obtain objective research results.
