Abstract

This paper proposes a novel objective quality metric for video retargeting based on spatio-temporal distortion analysis. The proposed metric combines three indices: one spatial distortion index taking into account perceptual geometric distortion and spatial information loss, and two temporal distortion indices including temporal inconsistency distortion and temporal saliency similarity. Subjective tests are conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed metric. Our experimental results show the good consistency between the proposed objective metric and the subjective rankings.
