The characterization of bacteria associated with legume nodules in the province of Santa Elena, Ecuador, aims to contribute to the identification and bacterial typing of the rhizosphere with its host plants in an area with problems of salinization, low-tech agricultural systems and with little information on microorganisms. Ten grams negative, mucoproductive, fast growing and bacilli strains characteristic of rhizobacteria were identified and characterized by means of morphological, biochemical and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques; as well as resistance to salinity and pesticides. Molecular analysis of the 16S gene showspredominance of the genus Pseudomonas, which is referred to as a rhizosphere colonizing bacteria and PGPR, but rare in legume nodules.
