Abstract

This research focuses on tsunami disaster mitigation as depicted in novels set in Aceh. The study is significant because novels are literary works highly favored by younger generations. It examines the forms of tsunami mitigation presented by novelists in their works. The findings of this research offer an alternative approach to tsunami education for Generation Z, given the popularity of novels among this demographic. Using a hermeneutic approach, the methodology employed is a qualitative descriptive analysis of literary texts. The data sources consist of several novels written by Indonesian authors, specifically those that depict the Aceh tsunami. Two novels prominently explore the Aceh tsunami: (1) Laut di Atas Langit by Mex Wahjab and (2) Te O Teriatte by Akmal Basery Nasral. In these novels, the authors present various forms of tsunami mitigation, serving as educational material for readers, including (1) pre-disaster mitigation, (2) mitigation during the disaster, and (3) post-disaster resolution. These findings demonstrate that disaster education can be effectively conveyed through literary texts, particularly novels.
