Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to consider the best way of activating the lumbar multifidus. Subjects: Ten healthy men participated in this study. Methods: We measured low back musclesat moderate anterior tilt and moderate posterior tilt of pelvis in sitting under two conditions (rest and hollowing abdominals). Surface electromyography of the right lumbar erecter spinae and lumbar multifidus was recorded. Results: The results demonstrated that moderate anterior tilt of the pelvis facilitated the lumbar multifidus without over-activation of lumbar erecter spinae under both conditions.
