Collection efficiency measurements on a-Si: H solar cells

Abstract

The collection efficiency ηc for photoexcited carriers is an important factor in solar cell efficiency. We have measured ηc for a-Si: H-Pt Schottky-barrier solar cells and shown how it changes with the thickness of the barrier-depletion layer. The results show that carrier generation requires an electric field in addition to light.
