Abstract

This article deals with the analysis of effect of wall thinning on pipelines as a local perturbation caused by inner or outer corrosion failure. The main aims of the investigation were to analyse the interaction of the pit corrosion defects and to determine the least lengths of FEA (Finite Element Analysis) models where the boundary conditions do not influence the results. The effects of corrosion pits were investigated by the help of FEA method and the results were validated based on an analytical calculation method. © Periodica Polytechnica 2011.
