Abstract
Context: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic and progressive disease that destroys the human joints. Only a few patients have remission, and the currently available drug has side effects. Moringa oleifera has anti-inflammation, immunomodulation, and immunosuppressant properties, which can be a candidate for a potential treatment for RA patients. Aims: To determine how M. oliefera extract affects RA patients' DAS28-CRP scores. Methods: Using the randomized controlled trial, the size of the samples reached 30 participants. Research subjects were categorized into two groups: the treatment group (n = 15, M. oleifera 1000 mg bi in day) and the control group (n = 15, placebo). DAS28-CRP levels of disease activity were measured both during pre- and post-treatment. Results: The results showed the improvement of DAS28-hsCRP pre- and post-M. oleifera leaf extract (MO) administration within the M. oleifera group (p=0.001). After therapy, the scores of DAS28-CRP differed between the control and MO groups (p=0.001). Conclusion: M. oleifera leaf extract administration reduced DAS28-hsCRP scores in RA patients.
