Cytological Analysis of the Chromosome Complement of Kalotermes flavicollis Fabr. (Isoptera Kalotermitidae). The Sex Determinig Mechanism

Abstract

Five different populations of Kalotermes flavicollis were chromosomally studied. It was found that males showed a diploid number 2n=67 while females had 2n=68. The presence of a trivalent in the first male meiotic metaphases suggests that sex determining mechanism is of the type X1X2Y in males, and X1X1X2X2 in females. © 1982, Japan Mendel Society, International Society of Cytology.
