Abstract

Catalytic hydrogenation of azido sugars has been conducted in the presence of different aldehydes to bring about a tandem reduction-reductive alkylation sequence. The reaction sequence proceeds in generally high yields, and tolerates some benzyl and benzylidene protecting groups that are sensitive to hydrogenolysis. © 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd.
