Prostitution and sexual violence beliefs in adolescents

Abstract

Prostitution is a phenomenon of sexual exploitation demanded by younger and younger men (Ranea-Triviño, 2019). Our aim was assessed beliefs about prostitution and sexual violence in 211 adolescents. More than 50% do not believe that a man seeks relationships for different sexual practices but do seek to satisfy needs. The girls believe that they seek relationships to feel superior (χ2=11.29; p=.001). Most do not associate prostitution with deception or objectification of women. More than 39% do not mention the situations of sexual violence presented. We must change “justifying” or “tolerant” beliefs about prostitution and sexual violence shown in adolescents.
