Abstract
During July 2021 Zhengzhou flood 1246 oocytes and embryos from 155 patients were subjected to emergency vitrification. Vitrification protocols were amended to allow cryopreservation of all gametes & embryos and mitigate risk of compromised outcomes No significant differences in reproductive outcomes were found between emergency vitrified oocytes/embryos and controls from non-emergency vitrified oocytes/embryos. How can IVF centers prepare for emergencies and crises? ART clinics must prepare for disasters with an adequate uninterrupted power supply (UPS) and comprehensive emergency plans. Staff training for emergencies is essential to safeguard biological materials and ensure optimal outcomes. Balancing preservation and future use of biological materials poses ethical challenges. Proactive planning and collaboration uphold patient safety and care standards during disruptions. Developing an emergency plan for IVF lab disasters.
