Abstract

The objective of this work was to select the best Euterpe oleracea progenies by the computer program SELEGEN, protocol and REML / BLUP, to compose a recurrent population for improvement for the formation of seedlings or clonal seed orchards. Fifty progenies in experimental design with two lattices 5 × 5 with two replications and five plants per plot in the spacing of 5 x 5 m were evaluated in the Tomé- Açu city, northeastern Pará State. The genetic variability based on individual heritability coefficient was low for number of clusters (0.09), median for fruit yield (0.23) and high for average bunch weight (0.65), weight of the empty bunch (0.70) and rachis length (0 51). The genetic correlation between fruit yield and one hundred fruits weight showed a low magnitude (0.28) suggesting the possibility of combining these characters for selection. Genetic gains in two ways propagation were high, but asexual propagation is presented as a more favorable alternative to obtaining higher gains in fruit production by selection (29.1%) than sexual propagation (21.4%).
