Abstract
A log-linear hedonic price function for Chilean avocados cv. Hass for the international market was estimated. The data were obtained directly from the export bulletins of the 2005-2006 season from a reputable Chilean fruit company located in Quillota, which is the heart of the avocado plantations in Chile. FOB price (in logs) was explained according to fruit size, destination market and marketing month. Analysis showed that destination markets have the most significant impact on price, followed by month of sale and size. European and Argentinean markets have significant negative impacts on price, while the U.S ports and Tokyo have positive impacts, with Houston as the only exception. Regarding the month of marketing, the results favor late harvests, especially those in December. Size, which has a small positive influence on price, also favors a late harvest.
