Petrography and tectonic evolution of schists of the Arquía Complex, west of Manizales in the La Manuela sector, roads Palestina and Chinchiná, Colombia

Abstract

The presence of stilpnomelane and chloritoid in schists of the Arquía Complex in the western sector of Manizales, evidences a metamorphism of greenschist facies, low degree in intermediate pressure belts. The association of the metamorphic peak for muscovite quartz schist is chloritoid + muscovite + quartz + plagioclase + stilpnomelane and for actinolitic schist is actinolite + chlorite + epidote/clinozoisite + quartz ± plagioclase. The calculations in pseudosections allowed to determine the following conditions: T= 420±10°C and P= 5.5 to 6 kbar. The geochemical characteristics show that the protolith of the actinolitic schist corresponds to MORBtype basalts and the graphite schist were pelitic rocks associated with an active continental margin. It also presents an integration of this complex with the evolution of western Colombia.
