Chapter 10: Sexually Violated: A Moral Theological Response to Children’s Rights

Abstract

This chapter argues that sexual abuse of children is a great violation of child’s rights which not only affects the victims but also takes a heavy toll on their families and our society. It recommends, among others, a deeper understanding and respect of the theological principle of the dignity of the human person requires that every human person be respected and it also limits the domination of one over the others. It also proposes that the Church speaks out forcefully and convincingly on the urgent need to protect the rights of children through the implementation of the child protection policy.
