Abstract
Xenospiza baileyi sierrae from the region of Mexico City is not a recognizable subspecies. Characters of the unworn basic and juvenal plumages, the eggs and song sugges that Xenospiza is more closely related to the sharp-tailed grassland-nesting sparrows of the Ammodramus complex rather than to the brushland-nestig sparrows of the Junco complex
