Our Strength Is In Our Diversity: Fact Or Fancy?

Abstract

The following article, under the above title, addresses the concept and ideology surrounding diversity, its inexorable relation to affirmative action, and other related ideological and political belief systems. The efficacy of diversity, as currently defined, is examined, as well as its application in the world of education and business. The uniqueness, or lack thereof, of diversity in modern day America is explored as is the overwhelming importance to which it has been elevated. The intent, herein, is to raise and discuss the issues(s) as to whether or not the popular and much used phrase, "Our strength is our diversity," is a statement of factual substance or is, rather, a mantra to create a fanciful and destructive illusion in order to advance apolitical agenda.
