Abstract

This paper - as the third and last part of a series of three parts - presents the use of the "General Method" of DIN EN 1993-1-1, chapter 6.3.4 for complex 3D steel structures. It shows that this surprising easy to handle method for global stability checks of spatial buckling behavior of steel constructions with thin-walled cross sections leads to the same results as the more complicate "Equivalent Imperfection Method" of DIN EN 1993-1-1, chapter 5.3.2(11), which uses the elastic global eigenshapes. In chapter 15 the "General Method" is modified in order to use it for structures with cross sections, which fail with flexural torsional buckling shapes. © 2014 Ernst & Sohn Verlag für Architektur und technische Wissenschaften GmbH & Co.
