Abstract
Background: Although previous studies have evaluated the reliability of PACER and 1-Mile running/walking (1-MRW) tests in American and European children and adolescents, there are not data of this reliability in Colombian population. Objective: To determine the test-retest reliability of two field protocols to evaluate the aerobic capacity of 7th to 11th graders. Methodology: A study of diagnostic tests evaluation was conducted on 93 students of 12 to 17 years old, which 79 performed the PACER test and 66 the 1-MRW test, twice under the same conditions. Test-retest reliability using the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC [2,1]) with their respective confidence intervals of 95% (95% CI) was evaluated. The level of agreement was established by the method of Bland and Altman. Results: The test re-test reliability was excellent for both the PACER (CCI ≥0.80) and 1-MRW (CCI ≥0.94). The Bland and Altman analysis showed better agreement between measurements of the 1-MRW compared with the PACER. The concordance between both tests was poor for women (r <0.3), but acceptable to good for males (r> 0.69). Conclusions: The 1-MRW is more reliability and it has better level of agreement that the PACER test. It is recommended that students from 12 to 17 years old, who are not familiar with PACER test, perform the 1-MRW in order to evaluate their aerobic capacity.
