Abstract

Diatoms from historic samples of eight lakes from the Yunnan Plateau, China comprised 296 taxa belonging to 56 genera. The widely distributed species were Achnanthes cf minutissima, Cocconeis placentula, Cymbella leptoceros, Cymbella neocistula, Diadesmis confervacea, Encyonema minutum, Epithemia sorex, Fragilaria capucina var. perminuta, Gomphonema germanii, Gomphonema parvulum, Lemicola hungarica, Navicula crytocephala, Navicula tenelloides, and Nitzschia alpina. The following taxa were unique to this region:Cyclotella rohomboideo-elliptica, Cyclotella rohomboideo-elliptica var. rounda, Cymbella sinensis, Sellaphora metzeltini, and Sellaphora liangyanlingi.
