Abstract
The effect of chlorine on the sintering on Y2O3-doped zirconia has been investigated. Chlorine influenced the sintering in vacuum, but not in air. Only 100 ppm of Cl was found effective. In vacuum, the shrinkage of the samples containing chlorine was delayed with pore growth above 1300°C. This phenomenon did not appear in the case of MgO-doped zirconia.
