MYCOTOXINS, FOOD ECONOMIC SEGREGATION FACTOR

Abstract

Mycotoxins are responsible for various toxic effects, including the induction of cancers and digestive, kidney, blood and nerve malformations in animals and Humans. A quarter of the world's food crops are affected by mycotoxin-producing moulds. The problem of mycotoxins is particularly important for animal and human health in hot and humid tropical areas. The globalization of trade has led to a system of regulatory standards that have often become bargaining money in global trade negociations. While developed countries have many mycotoxin regulations and a well-developed infrastructure to enforce standards, people in developing countries are not protected by food quality monitoring and enforcement of food safety standards in their country because the costs of sampling and analysis are too high.
