INSTITUTION for the PROTECTION and RE-EDUCATION of CHILDREN and ADOLESCENTS in GALICIA. LONGITUDINAL RESEARCH (1980-2020)

Abstract

This article presents a descriptive and longitudinal study that analyzes the evolution of the network of own resources of the protection and re-education system of Galicia during the last four decades and the current overview. The objective of the study is to offer an analysis of the evolution of the centres for minors in Galicia and what is the state of the question today. The methodology used for data collection has been the bibliographic and documentary review, especially using as source the Unique Registry of Entities Providers of Social Services of the Autonomous Community of Galicia. The exploitation of data has a mixed nature, quantitative in its description, and qualitative with respect to its analysis. The results obtained show an expansion of resources in the last 40 years aimed at creating a model of community care with some specialized care centres, but which still does not meet, to date, the requirements of the centres regarding the specific demands for action that have emerged during the last decades after the appearance of new care profiles (unaccompanied foreign children and adolescents, minors denounced by their coexistence nucleus, adolescents with mental health problems, adolescent maternity hospitals, etc.).
