Abstract

The objective of this study is to estimate the wage gap between men and women in the labor market of dependent workers by main occupation. The theoretical basis is the theory of human capital, the methodology consists in estimating the Mincer equation by means of the Ordinary Least Squares technique and to estimate wage discrimination the decomposition of Oaxaca-Blinder is used. The study period is comprised between 2012-2016, the database of the National Household Survey - ENAHO was used. The empirical results corroborate the existence of the wage gap with a slight decreasing trend, in 2012, male workers managed to gain 34.2% more than women and in 2016 they received 29.16% more than women, a reduction in discriminatory practices and an improvement in the educational level of the women's group.
