Abstract

Iron deficiency anaemia is common in Great Britain. It is especially common in young women and in most cases is due to an imbalance between iron intake and iron loss rather than to any specific pathological lesion. The prevalence of anemia could be reduced by prophylactic measures and active case finding. We are indebted to Professor H. Scarborough for his valuable criticism.
