Abstract

Background: McKittrick-Wheelock syndrome mostly results from colorectal villous adenoma and is characterized by dehydration, hyponatremia, hypokalemia, and prerenal azotemia. Case Report: We report the case of an 84-year-old patient with rectal villous adenoma, presenting with chronic mucous diarrhea for 2 years and subsequent prerenal azotemia. After fluid and electrolyte replenishment, the patient underwent proctectomy and recovered completely. Conclusion: According to a review of the literature, we suggest that surgical resection can achieve a complete recovery. © 2013 S. Karger GmbH, Freiburg.
