Abstract

Rehabilitation is key component in the management of people with severe mental illness (SMI). The aim of this article is to explore the need for rehabilitation services for people suffering with SMI and the role of mental health nurses in it. The review material was collected from online database i.e. Research gate, Pubmed, Scopus, CINHAL, and Google scholar. The study concludes that there is a need for user-friendly rehabilitation services across all over India. Mental health nurses play a vital role in assessment, symptom reduction, stigma clarification, physical as well as emotional care in delivering rehabilitation services to consumers, families, and society towards recovery of people with severe mental illness. This paper provides details on various themes of rehabilitation services for people with SMI, as well as the role of mental health nurses in delivering those services.
