Abstract

Fire has had a long and lasting impact on the development of many ecosystems and agricultural systems. This paper considers the geography of fire, examining its use in farming and its important role in the origin and maintenance of many ecosystems. It discusses the impact of fire on social, economic, and natural environments. The paper outlines fire management strategies in contrasting environments, including, the Royal National Park Australia, and Killarney National Park, in Ireland.
