Abstract
In this article, we study to what extent area plans for mathematics in Colombian secondary education are aligned with basic standards of competency in mathematics (Government of Colombia-Ministry of National Education, 2006). We describe what meaning we will assign to the term alignment of an area plan with standards and explain how that idea applies to each area plan. Adopting a quantitative approach, we calculated the alignment of 206 area plans, stratified by geographic area, type of institution, and academic mode. Using techniques of estimation and contrasting hypotheses, we established the alignment of Colombian area plans with standards, and found that such alignment is reduced with a significant dispersion, and that there are no significant differences in the alignment of area plans among different types of schools.
