Abstract

A phase coherence descriptor based on the Fourier analysis of phase dispersion in ultrasound data is proposed. It can be easily computed and introduced as a ponderation factor during a traditional beamforming process. Theoretical and experimental results show that, for a linear array of 64 elements operating in Synthetic Aperture Techniques, the dynamic range is enhanced reaching up to 30dB.
