Abstract

The seeds of Canarium schweinfurthii yielded a new phenylpropanoid, schweinfurthinol, characterized as 1-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-2,3-dihydroxypropan-1-one. p-hydroxy-benzaldehyde, p-hydroxybenzoic acid, 3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-prop-2-enal (p-hydroxycinnam- aldehyde), 3-(3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenyl)-prop-2-enal (coniferaldehyde), ligballinol and amentoflavone were also identified. Structures were established by spectroscopic analysis and comparison with published information.
