− Lightning strikes are disasters that are feared by everyone, the consequences of these strikes can cause material and even life losses. Lightning usually often strikes a place or object that has a fairly high altitude. Lightning protection is needed to protect important buildings in order to avoid damage. One of the important buildings with a very high height is a telecommunications tower owned by PT. Telkomsel, the tallest tower can reach 72 meters. The telecommunication tower or Base Transceiver Station (BTS) functions as a sender and receiver of signals or data to devices such as cellphones, landlines and similar gadgets. To protect BTS there are 2 kinds of protection, the first is external protection which includes air terminals, down conductors and earth terminations. the second is internal protection including equipotential bonding, shielding and arresters as protection from overvoltage in the BTS module. In the Karawang area, the calculation of the level of need for lightning strike protection at BTS and has a level of requirement ratio (15) where R>14 is the level that really needs lightning strike protection.
