Abstract

One of the causes of the productivity of the manufacturing industry in Small and Medium Enterprises in Indonesia is less productive because the production process carried out is still done manually by human hands. The high investment in the procurement of a CNC machine, the manufacturing Small and Medium Enterprises are considering retrofitting conventional machine tools into a CNC system to avoid buying new machines. This study developed a conventional milling machine aimed at obtaining an accuracy of motion of the 3 axis CNC milling machine. The results of this study are the standard "Hermle" manual milling machines with the addition of an engine control system with the Open Source Mach 3 Operating System. On the result of the development machine, it can be concluded the results of distance calibration on the X, Y and Z axis of each G1 programming code can be seen that the deviation that occurs in the calibration process is 0.01 mm below the reference value given to the 3 Axis CNC machine operating system software.
