Abstract

This research focuses on religious moderation in Indonesia’s Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) pesantren. The study is directed toward constructing a religious moderation model, emphasising its foundation on theo-socio-anthropological values. The findings of this research conclude that the construction of the religious moderation model in Muhammadiyah and NU pesantren originates from a scriptural-textual narrative combined with rational reasoning. This integration generates a dialogical pattern between textual and contextual elements, harmonizing to influence social and communal behaviour. This study also reveals that the attitude of religious moderation can effectively prevent pesantren members from engaging in radical behaviour, either in thought or action.
