Abstract

At the conclusion of this instructive module, the student will demonstrate an understanding of the thermodynamics of electrochemical processes by: 1) writing correct half-cell reactions and combining them to form equivalent batteries; 2) writing appropriate free-energy relationships for electrochemical processes and solving them for equilibrium conditions; 3) calculating the effect of pH and buffering (salts) on electrochemical processes; and 4) describing the action of corrosion in electrochemical terms.
