Abstract

The objective of this study was to identify termite species associated with the degradation of five forest tree species. A study on the durability of this material was accomplished with five important plant species in the Brazilian forest sector. Tectona grandis, Azadirachta indica, Inga sp., Trattinnickia rhoifolia, Bagassa guianensis species were evaluated for 18 months to measure wood deterioration degree according to the attack of termites in their aerial and underground parts. Data collection was performed according to the aerial and underground parts; wherein for the first, evaluations were carried out every four months, while the second was assessed every six months. Regarding the aerial part, A. indica and T. rhoifolia species presented lower and higher susceptibility to termite attack, respectively. On the other hand, concerning the underground part, A. indica and T. rhoifolia species presented higher and lower natural durability, respectively.
