Abstract

The aim of the study was to analyze the prevalence of high blood pressure and factors associated with high blood pressure in basic education teachers. Was conducted a cross-sectional study in 200 teachers of Viçosa-MG, mean age 43.2±10.2 years. Were evaluated anthropometric, biochemical, blood pressure and number of daily steps. Were calculated the linear regression analysis multiple to assess the association between variables. Were found 20% of hypertensive, with these getting higher age, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, waist-hip ratio, percent fat, glucose and triglycerides; and lower high density lipoprotein and number of steps when compared to normotensive (p<0.05). There was an association between high blood pressure and age (r=0.34; p< 0.000), BMI (r=0.27; p< 0.000), dyslipidemia (r=0.19; p=0.003) and diabetes mellitus (r=0.18; p=0.006). In conclusion, the prevalence of high blood pressure was similar to the observed in other studies, and the age, body mass index, dyslipidemia and diabetes mellitus are factors associated with high blood pressure in basic education teachers.
