Abstract
The vegetation of Rota, Tinian, and Saipan in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands is described and mapped. The survey, intended for land-use planning and forest resource management, is based on vegetation types identified on 1976 aerial photographs. Descriptions emphasize native limestone forest types and are based on field reconnaissance. The maps indicate that native fo rest and introduced trees cover approxi mately 29,278 acres (ll ,848 ha), secondary vegetation covers an estimated 24,986 acres (10,111 ha), and some 16,500 acres (6,678 ha) are unforested.
