Abstract

Book Review Over the last few decades have witnessed that nonprofit management and philanthropic studies (NMPS) have become considerably visible in formal educational programs at universities (Mirabella et al., 2022; Wish & Mirabella, 1998), accompanying the dramatic growth of the nonprofit sector worldwide. Today, numerous NMPS programs are formally offered at undergraduate and graduate levels. Findings from Mirabella (2022) suggest that 274 US-based schools offer degrees related to NMPS education, including 151 schools, and 49 schools, offering undergraduate-level programs, and PhD-level programs, respectively. These programs, collectively, display considerable diversity in degrees and educational objectives, institutional base, disciplinaries, and offering methods. While the central focus of NMPS education is invariably on credit-based degrees, such as master's and PhD, many US universities and colleges are also offering NMPS certificates and continuing education opportunities. The majority of NMPS programs are housed in colleges of arts and science, schools of public affairs and administration, or schools of business, but schools of other disciplines, such as social work and graduate/profession-al schools, also offer NMPS courses (Mirabella, 2007). Besides traditional, in-person courses, a rapidly growing number of programs teach NMPS online (Mirabella, 2020), thereby reaching out to numerous NMPS students, sometimes across state and even national borders. By reflecting upon recent events, NMPS programs are also increasingly placing critical emphasis on their curricular offerings to respond to diversity, equity, and inclusion and social justice (Feit & Sandberg, 2022). The growing trend of NMPS programs is intensifying the demands for textbooks appropriate to meet diverse needs from the aforementioned diverse groups of NMPS students, including students pursuing advanced academic degrees and careers or professionals seeking to obtain skills needed for their day-today work.
