Analysis of Chronic Energy Deficiency in Pregnant Women in the Working Area of Puskesmas Telaga Biru

Abstract

Pregnant women suffer from Chronic Energy Deficiency (KEK) which has a risk of maternal death during the prenatal period or the risk of giving birth to a baby with low birth weight (LBW). WHO notes that 40% of maternal deaths in developing countries are related to chronic energy deficiency.. This study aims to analyze the KEK problem in pregnant women in the Telaga Biru Health Center working area. This type of research is qualitative research with in-depth interviews and direct observation. The stages of the implementation of population and sample determination activities, data, interviews, observations, data processing. The results showed that KEK that occurs in pregnant women in the working area of the Telaga Biru Health Center is due to factors such as knowledge, consumption patterns, parity, economy, nutritional intake, consumption of additional food and FE tablets, and low initial weight. From the interview, pregnant women received additional intake in form of milk, biscuits, and tablets. Nonetheless, it was not carried out continuously. Besides, the factors that greatly influenced the problem of KEK in pregnant women, namely the consumption pattern of pregnant women and their current weight before pregnancy. The consumption pattern of pregnant women changes during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester, decreased appetite due to nausea and vomiting, causing changes in consumption patterns and body weight before pregnancy, on average, showing a potential of low weight. Conclusion, the problem of KEK in pregnant women is a complex problem and requires time, as well as good cooperation between pregnant women health workers and families in an effort to improve maternal nutrition to avoid KEK.
