Abstract

A new species of freshwater atyid shrimp, Caridina mengaeoides from Hunan Province, China is described and illustrated. Caridina mengaoides is distinguished from other species of the genus Caridina by the following set of characters: short and slender rostrum, unarmed dorsally; pereiopod shape, spination and segment ratios; shape and spination of the posterior margin of telson; and shape of the endopod of the first male pleopod.
